Tips for a smooth session
There are many things you can do for baby to feel comfortable. I recommend keeping the room/rooms that we will photograph in a little warmer than normal, especially if we will be changing baby's outfits or doing gorgeous naked baby photos.
If there is a room in your home that you are wanting pictures in and it doesn't get very warm let me know ahead of time and I can bring a space heater.
FEEDING BABY
If you can, try to plan feeding for right before our session time. Please make sure you take extra time to burp baby so that there is less chance of fussiness and spit up as we move baby into lots of positions.
also make sure to...
Not bathe the baby the day before or day of session. This usually will cause the skin to start peeling and can make it a lot harder to get baby smooth skin in editing.
Make sure you have out all outfits you would like baby photographed in. If there are any family heirlooms, special blankets or items you have bought baby that you want included in the photos start putting them in a safe spot so we have them all ready to go.
Most importantly
Try to keep baby awake the hour before our session. We want a sleepy baby if possible.
preparing your home
The story of your family to be exact. Your home does not need to be perfectly clean. The toy clutter does not need to be put away. You do not need to have the most beautiful furniture and the most trendy nic-nacs. We are all about telling your story. Of course I want you to be comfortable, so do what you must to feel that way. But don't do it for me! I am all about keepin' it real and documenting this phase of your life for you to look back on because one day you will miss it.
Natural lighting is what I love most. So I will ask that we stay close to windows for your session. If there is furniture, charge cords, or anything in front of the window I will probably ask to move it so we can utilize the space.
If there is anything brightly colored on your nightstands or dresser etc. I will probably ask you to move it so that it doesn't distract from the photos. However, if this item is something that you would like documented for this phase of your life, let me know and we can work it in.
I love to get photos of baby in bassinet or their crib, even if they aren't using it yet. A tiny baby in a big crib or snuggled up in their bassinet is always a gorgeous memory to have.
what to wear
I always edit my photos the same way to keep consistancy in my work. However, you can tell that there are more moody sessions and more bright and airy sessions. They were edited the same way! The color of bedding and the color of clothes that you wear strongly change what your photos will look like! I recommend looking through my portfolio to see what draws your eye so you can plan blankets and outfits around that.
